Good Monday Morning Team,
It appears that Fall, also known as Autumn, has arrived here in the Wichita area anyway. This last weekend was extremely pleasant and I hope you had a chance to get out and enjoy it. Fall around here generally means that we will see average high temps in the seventies and average lows in the mid-forties. There is also pleasing visual component to Fall in that the leaves on our trees will soon start turning from green to vibrant reds, oranges and yellows. Even the stormy weather calms somewhat in this season with about 3” of precipitation per month on average falling here in Kansas. There are multiple things to truly enjoy with the change we go through this time of year, but we should not drop our guard when faced with all of this pleasantness. There are some things we should stay aware of and others to be getting ready for.
Fall marks the start of the Flu season. A quick check of the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) website indicates vaccination is still strongly recommended, though some updates have occurred on who and when certain individuals should get vaccinated. I urge you to go to: www.cdc.gov/flu to learn more about this for yourselves. And all of those pretty leaves will soon be falling from the trees and piling up on our properties, sidewalks and streets. Piles of dry leaves can become a fire hazard and we sometimes have to work extra hard to get them all raked up and carted off and wet leaves can be very slippery creating slip and fall risks or driving hazards. As with any time of year, Autumn’s weather can still be highly unpredictable. Deeper into the season we can have above average temps one day, with snow and ice falling the next. Be prepared by keeping up to date on the weather forecasts and getting coats and gloves readily available for when it does get cold. You’ll need these items sooner or later anyway since Winter is just around the corner.
We will be drilling down into other Fall safety concerns as the season progresses, but let’s all do our part by not getting lax in our routine safety processes. Keep focused on the task at hand and avoid taking risks. Your ultimate enjoyment of all the pleasure this time of year can bring may just depend on it.
Have a great week and stay safe!
Sincerely,
Ray Moore
